Holly and Lisa Atkins traveled up to Morrinsville with their mum for a fabulous girls cycling weekend together. Holly and Lisa rode in C grade while Caroline was soignair, coach and general support.
A and B grades ran separately for the first time this year, so C was a smaller field than previously.
This was Lisa’s first tour and together the sisters enjoyed being part of a small friendly group – they were also able to come away with great results.
Stage One Time Trail – Lisa managed to get 1st place, 22seconds up on Holly who placed 2nd.
Stage Two Road Race – This finished with a long steep hill climb and again, Lisa placed 1st just ahead of Holly.
Stage Three Road Race – Holly and Lisa had a "team talk" before starting and the race went to plan with Holly making a break on the 'Queen of the Mountains'. Lisa followed and they worked hard together to get a 2 minute lead over the rest of the field, with Holly earning a well-deserved stage win.
Stage Four Criterium – There was no team planning in the final stage, the sisters just went for it! Holly stayed with the bunch to secure her second place on GC, while Lisa managed to get the sprint, finishing with the stage four win and as overall womens C grade leader.
Congratulations! Look out 2013 when these two talented cyclists will be making a move on B grade!
