Hawke’s Bay Regional Council has already constructed part of the Hawke’s Bay Trails, but is some months away from completing the entire project which now includes a Water Ride, Landscape Ride and Wineries Ride.
The just-launched Nga Haeranga: The New Zealand Cycle Trail Official Trail Partner Programme will include local trail partners like Takaro Trails with other bike hire, transport, accommodation and food partners likely to jump on board as the profile for Nga Haerenga, The New Zealand Cycle Trail grows nationally and internationally.
Hawke’s Bay Regional Council will advise a formal launch date for Hawke’s Bay Trails in 2012.
Hawke’s Bay Trails are delivered by Hawke’s Bay Regional Council, with the support of Napier City and Hastings District Councils, Rotary clubs, Community Trusts, corporate and private individuals and Hawke’s Bay Tourism. The first off-road pathway was opened in 2003 by Napier City Mayor Barbara Arnott with the support of local Rotary clubs. A decade on, the 180+ kilometres of tracks are a “Great Ride” on the New Zealand Cycle Trail confirming Hawke’s Bay as Heretaunga Ararau – the land of a hundred pathways.
