Monday 31st Oct to Friday 4th November 2011
Bike NZ Cycling Development Co-coordinator Vicki Butterworth wants to get more Hawke’s Bay people using bikes to ride to work. The aim is to encourage, promote and educate people about the benefits of commuting by bike to work and in 2011 the BikeNZ Napier Commuter challenge will be run for the third year! It’s a fun and healthy way to start the day so why not!
NEW FORMAT: We asked for your feedback and based on your responses we’ve made some exciting changes for this year. Thanks! The biggest change will be that we will only have ONE WEEK of ‘breakfast treats’! A big thank you to all organisations and business’s coming on board again, they invest in cycle commuting - so remember to thank them for their support.
GRAND PRIZE: We have a brand new major Prize up for grabs. Yes - this year in conjunction with Bayview Wairakei Resort, Taupo we are offering you a weekend away in Taupo with the opportunity to ride part of the NZ Cycle Trails. This prize is a luxury nights’ accommodation, dinner and breakfast, at Bayview Wairakei Resort, Taupo!
Enjoy a weekend of riding (OR Golf, Tennis, Swimming) all while being pampered by the team at Wairakei Resort. These guys get cycling, so much so that in conjunction with Bike Taupo they have recently built a trail, on their grounds, that links onto the Waikato River trails. Taupo has some of the best cycle tracks and trails to be ridden – these pathways/trails/tracks cater for all abilities and levels. Have you tried the W2K track or Kawakawa Bay track? They are must dos from Kinloch village and part of the New Zealand Cycle Trails - stunning. With plenty to riding to suit everyone you will enjoy a fantastic cycling weekend. Taupo, like Hawke’s Bay is also investing in cycling and it’s only next door. Fantastic!

WHAT TO DO: No need to pre-register this year, just ride in, register your name with Vicki at the breakfast each morning. Cycle in between 7am and 8.30am each day from 31st Oct to 4th Nov to the ‘business of the day’ and register. Receive a breakfast treat from your fantastic supporting business and organisation on your way to work. And yes, there are still daily prize draws to be won too. To be in the draw for the Grand prize you have to ride for 4 out of 5 days on the commuter challenge this. A big ask - we know you’re keen and can do it!
We have had great support from local businesses over the years, thank you! With only one week this year to fill it’s made it pretty hard to keep you all from last year, so thank you for understanding and being so supportive. See attached calendar for the dates and locations. You can also find the calendar online at www.sporthb.net.nz
Commuting by bike really is a great way to get to and from work! Look forward to seeing you all and meeting some new faces.
