BikeNZ, BikeNZ development and BikeNZ Road & Track are terms which are often used interchangeably.
However, despite the similar names they operate with different focus'.
Ramblers members will be most familiar with BikeNZ Road & Track who are responsible for the recent Club Road Nationals, and who enforce UCI regulations in racing.
BikeNZ Development has a participation (not racing) focus, and Whether it’s mountain bike, BMX, road, track, commuting or other everyday cycling, BikeNZ Development want everyone on two wheels
Led by Amy Taylor, BikeNZ Development is a regional team of four and central team of two.
The team facilitates and delivers the Learn to Ride programme to ensure that all children in New Zealand are taught to ride a bicycle.
They work with CAN and NZTA to train all cycle-skills instructors, and coordinate coach and official’s education.
Most importantly the team is helping to develop an educational and opportunities pathway from learning to ride to regularly participating in cycling.
SOME KEY STATISTICS FROM THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2011
• 1072 children aged 7-11 learnt to ride!
• 7 new Learn to Ride instructors trained
• 4 new BikeNZ Level 1 coaches accredited
• Enabled 321 children the opportunity to ride through three events
• Enabled 325 teens and adults the opportunity to ride through recreational and everyday community cycling initiatives
• Organised one club forum to help develop cycling clubs
• Created a BikeNZ coaching database
