The BikeNZ Napier Commuter Cycle Challenge 2011.

WOW, what a fantastic week of cycling and today was the final breakfast of the BikeNZ Napier Commuter Cycle Challenge 2011.

Thanks to Hawkes Bay Regional Council for hosting the final breakfast this morning – what a great turnout and BBQ for breakie!  Thanks to Pip and her team at HBRC for helping organise this and Neil for manning the BBQ of eggs, sausages and bacon!  We had 70 cyclists ride in this morning to a very sunny welcome!  We hope you enjoyed, great to see so many new faces.  Keep up the great work of inspiring others to commute to work.  Over the week 355 breakfast treats were given to you over the week and many spot prizes were won.  We have had 184 riders registered in Napier over the past 3x years!

Hawkes Bay Regional Council is behind the NZ Cycle trails here in Hawke's Bay, working alongside the other councils and groups to help link our cycling networks and provide more opportunities to explore our region by bike.  Don't forget to check out their website, with many new pathways opening before the end of the year.  If you want to maps for the pathways ask HBRC or to download check out   www.hbrc.govt.nz/GetIntoIt/Recreation/CyclingandWalkingTrails  Some of these pathways are well worth including in your commuting routes – if you can.  They are both scenic, pretty, relaxing and away from traffic - NICE.  The pathways are such a fantastic way to get around Hawkes Bay!

Today was the draw for the Grand prize. If you had ridden and registered for 4 out of 5 days you were in with a chance.  The Grand
Prize is a weekend in Taupo.  The prize is a luxury nights' accommodation, dinner and breakfast, at Bayview Wairakei Resort, Taupo!  And the winner was………………………………………………………………..

Congratulations to Kevin Kalff, eh hem District Commander Kevin Kalff.  I'm sure you will enjoy this Kevin.  And well deserved – a keen cyclist and commuter – good luck for the Lake Taupo Challenge in a few weeks Kevin!  Great to see lots of the boys in blue supporting the challenge and commuting to work this week, we appreciate your great work in our community.

Thanks to all the businesses, organisations and people who have supported the challenge this year.  Big thanks to Chris Tremain, Napier City Council, Bennett & Pearson, Fishbike, Kathmandu, SportHB, Soul Cycle Repairs, Arataki Honey, Hawkes Bay Today, Classic Hits, Bayview Wairakei Resort Taupo, CAN and Hawkes Bay Regional Council.  And thanks to all the teams within these groups for providing breakfasts and prizes to the commuters of Napier.  Remember to thank these organisations for their support if you ever get the chance.  It's great to see local councils supporting cycling initiatives, cyclists and giving back to the local community.  As cyclists in the community we appreciate all your support – thanks.

It's been a great week and wonderful to see all your smiling faces again, keep up the cycle commuting – you guys are champions!

Kind regards,

Vicki
