Women’s Teams Pursuit: Alison Shanks, Jaime Nielsen, Kaytee Boyd - BRONZE medal
This trio narrowly missed out on a spot in the gold medal final by just 7/10ths of a second. They controlled the pace in the bronze medal ride off and their time of 3:24.086 was the second fastest time of the competition, more than a second quicker than silver medalists USA.
Shane Archibald – SILVER omnium
After winning two World Cup rounds, this was Shane’s first senior track world championship. Over the course of the competition Shane fluctuated from fourth to 10th, up to first and then down to fourth going into the final discipline, the Kilo Time Trial. Shane rode fastest to elevate him to second overall, just four points from the gold medal.
Ali Shanks – SILVER individual pursuit
Commonwealth Games gold medalist and former World Champion, Ali worked hard to regain the rainbow jersey. She came within a blink of it, leading Sarah Hammer for all but the final lap before the American unleashed a blinding finish to steal the jersey by 29/100th of a second. Ali rode 3:33.299
Jesse Sergent – SILVER individual pursuit
It was a tough final for Jesse, facing the new World Record holder and top qualifier Jack Bobridge, a day after racing the team pursuit. Bobridge was able to open up a gap of two seconds within the first kilometre. Sergent, who had had minimal build up on the track prior to the championships finished two and a half seconds back in a time of 4:23.865
The team included not only 16 cyclists, but also a Team Manager, Assistant Team Manager, Lead Coach, Women’s Coach, Sprint Coach, 3 Sports Scientist, 2 Physios,, 2 Mechanics, Performance Analyst, Sports Psychologist and a Soigneur.
