Most of you will have heard by now that Hawkes Bay’s own Westley Gough has been selected for the Commonwealth Games Team. He has a long history of racing with and supporting Ramblers as well his home-town club CHB Cycling.
He was in the New Zealand team that beat Great Britain for gold in the team pursuit at the 2005 World Junior Championships in Austria. He gained a silver medal in the individual pursuit at the 2006 junior worlds, and part of the quartet that won the silver in the team pursuit behind Australia.
We’ll be thinking of Westley as the squad touches down in Delhi at the end of September, and cheering loudly as our cyclists begin their racing (from the 5th October)… loudest, of course, for Westley!
