Logo Concepts
The exciting exercise of building a fresh, new image for the club continues! We have reached an important stage - adopting a new logo. Ramblers members feedback is invited on three concepts for a new logo for Ramblers. The first URL below takes you to a file of three concepts and some insights from the designers about each one.
When you have looked at them and formed your opinions, the second URL will take you to a brief survey which will take only a few minutes to fill in to give your feedback.
The new logo is very important as it will provide the inspiration for the other design work that follows, most importantly for the uniform.
The committee looks forward to receiving feedback from members on these logo contenders.
The survey closes on 1 September.

Ashleighs Diary (4)
Hi all
Well this is most likely to be my last update to you all from the Italy road.
It has truly been an amazing 6weeks. I have seen so much, learnt so much, experienced so much; All because the wheels on my bike go round and round. Its incredible to think of all the places I have been to thanks to cycling. I have made so many friends and loved the culture I have encountered. I also think I have become a phrase book expert!
I have almost finished packing, except for the bike of course. That will go in the day before we leave. I have joined the rank of riders who turn their handle bars up so training can still go on on a windtrainer one armed.
So as for a general sum of the journey I am lost for words. Austria, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, France, Japan, Holland, Belgium.. Where to begin? I simply cannot describe the trip, and how I have felt through it all. I have learnt so much about myself in particular and I am so excited (if not a little bewildered also!)about what the future has in store.
Thank-you.
For the support that everyone has given me. Whether that has been financial support; offering encouragement and advice, mechanical and technical stuff (thanks pedal power boys and virtual Carl on his computrainer!) food and nutrition, equipment, or simply following my updates and sending back your love. I have honestly been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and love of all those involved. My sincere thank you goes out to you all.
I am looking forward to landing home on Monday morning and choosing the next fork in the road. (once I heal)

Congratulations Westley
Most of you will have heard by now that Hawkes Bay’s own Westley Gough has been selected for the Commonwealth Games Team. He has a long history of racing with and supporting Ramblers as well his home-town club CHB Cycling.
He was in the New Zealand team that beat Great Britain for gold in the team pursuit at the 2005 World Junior Championships in Austria. He gained a silver medal in the individual pursuit at the 2006 junior worlds, and part of the quartet that won the silver in the team pursuit behind Australia.
We’ll be thinking of Westley as the squad touches down in Delhi at the end of September, and cheering loudly as our cyclists begin their racing (from the 5th October)… loudest, of course, for Westley!

Asheighs Diary (3)
hi there
apologies for the delay in an update. as well as grammer and the short length. i am typing one handed on a german keyboard so that makes it a bit hard. haha. and slow.
to update you on the road race, i crashed 3rd lap. dislocated my shoulder and broke the neck of my humerous. i was determined that a crash wouldnt mean race over and rode myself back to the front pack. unfortunately i was dropped up the next climb unable to hold the pace of the bunch and was pulled out by the commissare. much to my disgust, i went a wee bit hysterical, as i came all this way not to finish after so many people backed and supported me. i argued but they wouldnt let me ride anymore. i then spent 5 and a half hours in emergency after gelato ofcourse. i wasnt missing that! haha.
can still ride a trainer though. happyface..
thats all from me, taking far too long to type. !

Ashleighs Diary (2)
Hi there everyone
So we have moved on from Holland, through Germany into Austria. We have stopped the night at the brother of Coach to break the journey up a bit.
I am currently lying on the floor with a 4 month old puppy, who is just the most gorgeous thing (apart from the old boy who is clearly the one in charge of the ball!) , and earlier I made friends with 2 Norwegian forest cats so I am feeling quite at home!
There are just a few short nights before race day and things are getting a bit nervous. I know that as soon as the start gun goes I’ll be fine though, it will be the same old time trial smash fest and at the end when I am totally wrecked I will ask myself why I didn’t pick poetry instead! J And then there is the road race on Sunday. I am suspicious I am going to feel very alive very soon, and am so keen to get into the race.
I have had plenty of race experience here, it was surprising how many blisters you get from racing on cobbles a few times a week! All is well on the training side though, fingers crossed for judgement day!
I will update you all when we arrive in Italy, this is just a general hello to let you know where in the world I am.

Ashleighs Diary
Hi there fellow Ramblers, Especially B grade!!
Miss you all on Saturdays and the post race biscuits! Hope that the racing there is going on aggressively and that the weather is treating you well. It is actually raining today! Who would have thought?!
So to update you a little bit on what I have been up to. (I’m sure you’ve been missing my voice in the bunch and wondering what’s going onJ ha ha ha)
We had a relatively smooth journey over here, except for the traumatic experience of leaving Sammy (my beloved phone) in Japan. He is well and truly gone now but I have come to terms with my loss. Haha. J Training here has been amazing, the roads are to die for, the people are so courteous (especially when I wear the Dutch kit, I swapped a NZ kit for the orange lycra of Holland with a girl who is 19 and pretty much my size) the weather has been good up until now; So all has been good. I really could get used to getting up at the leisurely hour of 8, breakfast, few hours on the bike, home to shower and more food, perving at Andy for a whole TDF stage of the day, dinner and then a walk through the beautiful sand dunes and beaches. Sadly today the weather turned yuck, (it’s a miserable 22 and means I’m wearing long sleeves and pants! NZ will be hard to come back too!) and the tour is over, guess I’ll have to fill the afternoon catching up on studies instead.
I have raced 3 times so far, the first just 2 days after landing, saw me swap -3 in Canberra for 38 and a pack of 120 who wanted to do 14min laps for a 9.2km course. Needless to say I made nearly half the race and then watched as the 45km av continued. Serena was there and put out a strong performance which was encouraging. The second race I did was a junior kermis, I definitely was one of the stronger riders, shutting down attacks and what not, and I did find that I lack the aggression (in terms of holding my position and not getting thrown into drains) and the kick I need to be successful. I am improving dramatically though, so we have happy faces. The most recent race I did was a criterium, I felt strangely calm prerace despite my record of crit performances. And actually had a good performance. After having been relegated to the very back of 100 riders because of too much pushing and shoving in the front of the line I had a pretty bad start. Sadly I was one of the first on the line and had to go to the back anyway. I managed to move up the bunch a wee way, but failed to move up enough to see the split, being on a k long circuit meant there wasn’t much room to stay away from the 45sec break away riders. I did ride myself through 2 groups of riders to make it to past the half way point. Given a longer lap or had I responded earlier I think I could of survived, especially if I got to start further up, but so is life! I am getting better tactically and learn so much even from watching how they race here.
There is less than 2 weeks until the day of the time trial, but I have managed to find ways to calm myself and enjoy my time here. I am feeling strong in TT sense and am ready to show them how kiwis, especially Ramblers roll the TT rig. I will be sure to keep you posted on progress. J
Ash xo
Ps. Just finished my first hot dog race in Belgium, hung on to the front so pretty happy with that.
