Day 2 Track Nationals Silver for Regan Gough

Within a blink of an eye Kerry Harford lost his winning position in the Masters Men Points Race and only with his daft skills avoiding a disaster, as his back tyre exploded. Because all this happened with less than a kilometre to go the rules prevented Harford from re-entering the race, all the hard work vanished as he scored a “Did Not Finish”.

The second day of the Track Championship still had a silver lining when the young Regan Gough firstly managed to easily advance to Under15 Boys Points Race Finals. In his qualifying heat Gough rode a smart race, accumulating points in all the sprints giving him the luxury to ease off in the last one.

With all the young guns in the final the sparks started to fly, with Reon Sheath temporarily hitting the deck in a close tussle for position. After a quick check-over he was able to resume the race and chase points again. Michael Culling, a Southland local, dominated most of the sprints, but was pushed all the way by Regan Gough.

Due to his high top end speed the East Coast North Island rider managed to out-fox the field on a few occasions to sneak away and gathered enough points to secure a solid Silver medal.
