From the Event Director of The Hub Cycle Centre 3 Day
I would like to extend a vote of thanks to all the club members that gave up part of or all of their weekend to assist with Hub Tour a few days ago. The fact that the weekend was a success is all down to you. All up, 54 club members volunteered their support and had “official duties” – fantastic.
If you were standing on a corner for hours , sweeping stones off the course, putting out or picking up cones, recording numbers over the line, erecting finish banners, passing out wheels, following riders in a commissaries car, racing to stay ahead of riders down Torrens, picking up riders off the stones at the crit., baking in the hot sun up the top of the Taihape Rd hill, holding riders at the prologue, doing roll outs, processing results till the small hours, putting together the programme, making up start lists, or just passing on some much appreciated advice.
Thanks also need to go to the riders as without them there would be no need for the tour. Special thanks to Ken MacKenzie, Ivar Hopman and Ivan Aplin.

Thank you to Juniors - The Hub Cycle Centre 3 Day Tour
A special request has been made to thank the juniors that helped as there is sometimes criticism that juniors don’t put their hand-up. In 2010, Ashleigh Neave and Duncan Mackenzie were consistently at races just to help out when they weren’t racing due to injury and illness. The juniors who gave up most or all of their weekend to assist the Hub Tour were past juniors Lars Hopman and Rory MacKenzie and current members Damien Lysaght and Duncan MacKenzie.

2011 RaboDirect Age Group Track National Champs March 1st-5th
Did you know that there are some awesome events for riders from all age groups at the 2011 RaboDirect Age Group Track National Championships? The event is being held from the 1-5th March in Invercargill.
BikeNZ would particularly love to see masters riders racing down at the track – the more riders we get at the event the more likely it is that they will be able to increase the amount of events for masters riders in the future! There are the New Zealand national records up for grabs as well.
For full details and a copy of the programme, contact Sarah van Boheeman SarahVB@bikenz.org.nz or phone 03 383 0024

The Hub Cycle Centre 3 Day Tour
Thankyou to all involved in making this event a success. We are very fortunate to have such a willing team of skilled and dedicated members who always step forward to help.
Special thanks to event director, Wally Woods, who coordinated this event so professionally. Particular thanks to the many volunteers who made this last weekend an outstanding success; you stood on corners, drove wheel wagons and lead cars, you layed out and collected cones and road signage... without you we coul not run events like this.
A special mention also the parents who gave their time to coordinate and operate the sausage sizzle on Sunday, especially Vanessa and Debbie.

Become a BikeNZ Qualified Coach
BikeNZ is taking initiatives to ensure that all cyclists have accessibility to trained and comptent coaches. Following a successful level one BMX coaching course run late last year, BikeNZ, under the direction of development manger Amy Taylor, will extend these coaching resources to both the road and track disciplines.
A Level 1 Road coaching course will be run in Hamilton over the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd October, with a Level One Track coaching course scheduled for the 5th and 6th of November in Auckland
Both Level 1 courses are appropriate for anyone new to coaching, including parents, club members or interested cyclists. You do need to be 17 years of age or over to participate. If you are experienced in coaching and want to ensure you are on the right track, or want to progress to Level 2 then this course is also appropriate for you. Each course will cover the “how to” of coaching, including communication, learning styles, essential road or track cycling techniques, training, and will include a practical coaching session
Along with this, a support system will be set in place to ensure continued education for all BikeNZ qualified coaches.
These courses are in high demand so register now to ensure that you don’t miss out. For further information or to register, please email Amy Taylor amy@bikenz.org.nz
