Friends of Kimberley Fundraising Effort
Make a difference to the life of a young lady who has Cystic Fibrosis.
On Sunday evening HBMSC launched a fundraising effort for a young HB lady called Kimberley Robottom (the 18 year old daughter of Ann Robottom) who has Cystic Fibrosis. We ask that you go to www.friendsofkimberley.co.nz to read Kimberley's story and see what we fundraising initiatives we have going.
Here are some of our fundraising initiatives:
You could come along to the Speights Coast to Coast Winter Bomb Tour at Taradale High School on the 11th of May at 7.00pm. Tickets are only $15 and you also get to personally meet Robin Judkins and get a free Speights Beer or Orange Juice
You could come to the Shrek 4 - The final movie in the Shrek Series. This premier is the Sunday 20th June at 3.45pm at the Napier Reading Cinemas before it is open all over NZ so you could come along, have some fun and bring the whole family. Tickets are also $15 for this and are limited so don't miss out.
We also started selling raffle tickets for an Ocean Kayak valued at Over $1000. Tickets are $5 and we need to sell them all really fast to draw this raffle. If you want to buy any contact Cathy Moriarty on 0275722517.
AIR NEW ZEALAND have also donated the flights from Napier to Auckland return and have also made an offer to upgrade Kimberley's air tickets to Business Class for the Auckland to Los Angeles leg of her trip. If we can collect 6520 air points from members we can offer this comfort to Kimberley. So if you have any spare airpoints you are happy to donate let us know and we will do the rest. BUT WAIT.... IRONMAN AND TAURANGA HALF IRONMAN ENTRIES UP FOR GRABS!
Jane Patterson from the Patter who runs Ironman and also the Tauranga Half Ironman has also donated an entry into both of these events. We want to put these entries up for tender and the best tender gets the entry.
Now to make this really clear. We won’t accept a tender for less than the normal entry fee. But remember every cent of this goes to the Friends of Kimberley Fundraising so it will be going to a great cause and you would have paid most of this money anyway if you wanted to enter either of these races. As for the Tauranga Half which is worth $250, how much would you pay to have a confirmed place and not have to panic about missing out this year on line????
We ask that you email hbmsc@ihug.co.nz with your tender amount and which race you want to tender for. Don't forget to give your name and contact details also. Tenders have to be in by Friday 30th of April and the successful bid will be notified after that.

Can the Ramblers Youth back up a great TA tour this weekend at the CRI Rotorua Tour
The results last weekend continue to highlight the importance of the Time Trial in tour racing.
Kerri-Anne Torckler put 21 seconds on Courtney Lowe in the TT to take a close GC battle to this point with Emma Peterson Third
Ashleigh Neave put 40 Seconds on Georgia Williams in the u19 Girls TT to win the GC in this Grade and 3rd in the open womens TT. All of the other contenders were out of the race in stage two when Ashleigh and Georgia were the only two to stay with the Open Women.
Regan Gough was pipped (15 secs)in the U15 TT by Ollie Jones but won the GC on the back of his solo break in the previous stage in one of the most decisive victories of the tour when he put over a minute on the field. Maxyna Cottam (Cycling New Plymouth)in camp with the Ramblers won the U15 Girls. Corban Mason Smith, Tobias Robertshawe and William Green (5th, 6th and 9th) all took prize money and will be looking to improve this weekend.
Fraser Gough won the Under 19 Mens TT by 43 secs to take 3rd on GC with Josh Atkins (Benchmark Homes Team) taking honours from Alex McCrory-Bowick in a race that had more than 10 likely GC contenders up to the TT.
Hayden McCormick (TA Sports) showed his class taking the U17 TT and coming from down the field to win GC, Ramblers riders finished mid field with Lance Welch having the best GC and James Lochhead the best of the TT.
A week in camp training will hopefully see the Ramblers Riders continue to shine in the CRI Rotorua Junior tour this weekend.

Curried rice proves great fuel for Ramblers Juniors at Te Awamutu Junior Tour
At one of the more prestegious junior qualifying tours Ramblers riders continue on their build and form from the CHB Junior tour.
A successful first day with Fraser Gough (1st year u19) facing a challanging ride with the Benchmark trade team riders working well together to look after Josh Atkins and shutting down attempts by the peleton and Fraser to bridge an early break of 6 riders.
Fraser finishing 1:44 off GC and out to 1:47 in third place after stage 2 with the 22.5km TT tomorrow and at least 10 of the 66 riders within 2 minutes of GC.
Shaun Simpson has survived 215km over two stages of challenging South Waikato country and will be happy to finish his first major tour.
Ashleigh Neave (U19) and Kerri-anne Torckler(Open Women)in a combined race are both well in contention with Ashleigh 2nd in QOM and 2nd in U19GC 2 secs behind Georgia Williams leading into the 15km TT and Kerri-anne getting 2nd and 3rd stage places, 2nd on GC behind Courtney Lowe 3sec on GC. Megan Watson and Hannah van Kampen both rode well in their first year at this level and are looking to improve next weekend in Rotorua Junior Tour.
U17 boys fought well in stages 1 and 2 but lost some time in the more demanding Sunday 86 km stage with Lance Welch 1 minute ahead of James Lochhead with Logan Bean a few seconds behind and Mike Garrity another minute back all in the middle of the 65 stong field. The TT tomorrow will be interesting with 13 including Hayden McCormick who dominated the CHB junior tour currently 8th but well in contention.
Crystal Amy (u17 girls) gutst it out over the the first two days and is showing the true spirit of cycling to finish her first major tour in the 15km TT tomorrow.
Regan Gough had a huge 3rd stage to put a 1:43 on Ollie Jones and will be looking to continue the Gough family pillage of medals from this event in the 9km tt tomorrow. William Green used all of his tactical nouse surprising the commisaires to ride back to the bunch and get up to 5th on the line in their 35km stage today. Tobias Robertshawe also had a strong ride to finish 8th today and all will be looking to improve their GC position tommorow and are all within top 5.
A great camp at the rowing headquarters in Karapiro with James Fulford (budding soignuer) Penny Gough (Chief Cook) and Ivar Hopman (Manager, Organiser, Coach) and several of the Dads all adding to a well run and happy outfit. Most of us are amazed at Ivars energy and commitment on these camps and he always manages to create a happy and supportive team atmosphere.

Tour de L'Amitie - Tahiti - Interested?
BikeNZ has received a preliminary invitation to send a team of five riders to the 2010 Tour de l’Amitie in Tahiti
The 2010 tour will be longer than previous years and will visit more islands. The team will comprise of one U23 rider, one masters rider (over 40 years old), and three other riders with no age requirement.
Full details of the invitation are to be confirmed, but the event will be self funded.
Any rider or manager who would like to be considered for selection should contact sarah@bikenz.org.nz by Friday April 16.

Development Camp Juniors Taranaki June 2010
Development camp opportunities (Tour of Taranaki is NOT for U15 riders)
Expressions of interest are sought from U17, U19, Boys and Girls and U23 Women who wish to be considered to attend the Queens Birthday camp to be held in Taranaki and participate in PowerCo Tour of Taranaki.
The camp runs from Friday evening 4th June to Monday 7th of June.
The camp is primarily for the squads that will travel to Canberra to participate in the Junior and Women’s tour in early July. The riders for these squads will be automatically selected. These squads will be announced shortly after the conclusion of the National Road champs in May.
The coaching will be lead by the experienced team of BikeNZ development coaches: U19 Men Ken Bewley , U19 Women Lynn Murphy, U17 Boys Robbie Risdon, U17 Girls Katri Lake, U23 Women to be confirmed, and Jono Hailstone.
The opportunity also exists for coaches who wish to be considered to assist with the teams during the Taranaki tour.
The tour is a demanding 5 stage, 3 day tour that has proven an ideal environment for the development squads to learn tour racing in a team environment. Please note that the invited riders will be expected to work as part of a team rather than individual riding.
The camp is based at St Mary’s Boarding school in Stratford, this is central for all the racing. The school provides excellent accommodation and 3 meals a day for total cost $200.00 per rider.
Travel to and from Stratford is the riders responsibility.
If interested in being considered for this camp, please send a brief outline of your racing experience, notable results and your future cycling objectives. Be sure to include your contact details, age, and your cycling club.

As part of the increasing commitment by BikeNZ Road and Track (BRT) to provide a development path for riders, it is planned to include an Under23 Women’s team in the squad that goes to the Canberra Tour in early July. This fits with the Cycling Australia move to improve women’s racing and include teams racing in the Canberra tour.
The team will travel with the development squads to Canberra. Accommodation has been arranged at the AIS, which provides excellent accommodation and meals. All transport will be coordinated through BikeNZ to ensure best value.
This trip is self funded and is currently expected to cost approx $2,600. Cost savings are being investigated
As part of the development of these teams we would also expect the riders to take part in the Queens Birthday tour of Taranaki. This tour has been used by the development squads as a pre Canberra camp, during which team riding is developed in a challenging event with excellent racing. Accommodation is arranged for the squad at St Mary’s boarding school which provides quality accommodation and meals at a very affordable price. The cost for the accommodation in Stratford is $200 for the 3 night’s bed and all meals.
A coach will be appointed shortly who will coordinate the team and work to develop a strong team racing structure, the desire to race as part of a team is a basic requirement for selection to the team.
BRT invites U23 women who are interested in being part of the team to race in Canberra and ride the Tour of Taranaki to submit their names for consideration. To be considered, please send a brief outline of your racing experience, notable results and your future cycling objectives. Be sure to include your contact details, age, and your cycling club.

My wife and I are planning a trip to New Zealand in January and February 2011 and will be staying for a month somewhere around Napier (I am looking for a house to rent if you have any info on that subject). Ramblers Vets have success at 40km TT
Ramblers riders enjoyed success at the Wellington Veterans Cycling Club-hosted national vets 40km time trial at the weekend.
All three visitors from HB were competing in the Masters 5 section. Bruce Galloway won gold in a quick time of 58m25s. Gavin Scoble, competing in his first 40km TT, won bronze in 1:00:27, 13 seconds down on second placed Barry Gilliland of Palmerston North. Wally Woods was fifth in 1:03:43. Bruce's time was only bettered by three M1s and an M2 rider.
Conditions on Sunday's out and back course starting in Masterton were near ideal with a warm, sunny day and a light northwesterly breeze. The scenic course is undulating with a couple of sharper pinches. A false flat for about 4km up to the turn past Gladstone proved demanding for most, although it did give an all-too-short opportunity for a high speed exit from the turn. Brent Backhouse posted the fastest time overall with a 56 flat, meaning Andrew Townsend’s course record of 54 flat still stands.

Conditions on Sunday's out and back course starting in Masterton were near ideal with a warm, sunny day and a light northwesterly breeze. The scenic course is undulating with a couple of sharper pinches. A false flat for about 4km up to the turn past Gladstone proved demanding for most, although it did give an all-too-short opportunity for a high speed exit from the turn. Brent Backhouse posted the fastest time overall with a 56 flat, meaning Andrew Townsend’s course record of 54 flat still stands.
