RAMBLERS RIDERS SUCCESSFUL IN NATIONAL VETS 40KM INDIVIDUAL TIME TRIAL

Bruce Galloway writes-

A small contingent of local riders attended this event that was held in Masterton on 8 March 2007. Weather was fine and mild with a steady breeze that slowly picked up as the day wore on.

Tony Hooper in Vet 1 placed second in 57.42 (by 3/100th) of a second from Ben Knight and was extremely unlucky not to take the win.

Andrew Townsend was in a class of his own and took the win in Vet 2 in 55.45 which was the fastest time of the day by almost two minutes.

No representation in Vet 3 and Vet 5 but Bruce Galloway took gold in Vet 4 in 57.51 in his first 40km event. Ian Seddon in a return to top level riding was second in 59.04 with Hilary Green 6th in 64.48.

Alan Simpson also took gold in Vet 6 in 61.33 in a further improvement on his time from last year. Photos will be added to the website in due course.

Track Champs held on a great day in Taupo

A select but dedicated group of Ramblers riders travelled to the Taupo Velodrome on Sunday the 9th of March to compete in the clubs track championship.
It was a beautiful clear Taupo day with lights winds, good conditions for outdoor track racing.
All the races where part of an Omnium, where at the end the individual's placings get added up and the one with the lowest score is the overall winner.
As this was an Open Race, riders from other clubs where also competing for the Open Honours.

The placings from the first two events, 200mtr Flying Lap and 500mtr TT, where used for seeding in the 5 lap Handicap Race. With all the 19 riders starting at different spots around the track, it came down to the last lap. In a tight bunch finish Zane Alexander kicked home in first, with John Ellery just beating Chris Henderson and Dan Warren. The Warren Family got some awesome video footage of this race, we hope to put this on the Blog in the near future.

The Points Race was an all Dan Warren affair, taking a solo lap on the field, earning him 20 points.
After the Point Race and with one more race to go, John Ellery was already the clear Omnium winner in the Under 17 Boys, the big battle was for second place with Fraser Gough and Lars Hopman tight at 9 points equal. Fraser clinched the second spot in the Champs by riding extremely well in the Miss&Out.
After the Champs some of the riders got a good thirty minutes of Madison practice in, where senior riders paired up with the juniors. Can't start them young enough. >> Click Here for results

Ramblers Track Champs This Weekend!!

The last two years the main event on a trackies calendar would be the National Track Championships in Invercargill, where all the medals and titles where contested for. Reputations and legends have been born and broken at this wooden indoor velodrome.
This weekend the Ramblers will provide you with a opportunity to become a legend in your own right at the Taupo Velodrome, where you could become the 2008 RCC Track Champion.

The races are open to all riders, we have confirmation of riders from New Plymouth, Taupo and Levin coming over for this event. But only 2008 RCC financially paid up members can win the RCC Track Title.

The event will be run as a Omnium, where your placings in the different events will be added up and the one with the lowest score will be declared the winner.
The following events will be part of the Omnium:
1. 200mtr flying start
2. 500mtr standing start
3. Handicap race (seeding from event 1&2) 4. Miss and Out (last one over the line is out, until 3-4 riders left to sprint for placings) 5. Points race (Points every set lap, 5,3,2 and 1 point) 6. Madison, this one does not count for title.

Our own local weather man, Garry "Fuji" Wellwood, has consulted the maps and statistics and concluded that weatherwise we can't go wrong this Sunday. Come and have a crack at Track racing this Sunday. We're going to be at the Track from 9am, racing starts at 10am, track bikes will be available.

Taupo Velodrome is situated in Owen Delany Park, Centenial Drive Taupo, next to Top 10 Holiday Resort.
